Positivity is great to see in optics and the interview this week (see page 8) with the prime movers at LOCSU is a breath of fresh air to a profession that has seen its skills go to waste for too long.

The scope for optometry to take on a wider primary care role is massive and it is a national disgrace that successive governments have failed to seize the opportunity. The Local Optical Support Committee's calls must surely be heeded if optometry and, more importantly, practices are to benefit from changes to the NHS.

While Optician supports the efforts being made by LOCSU, the localisation which appears to be taking place puts more emphasis than ever on local relationships and local understanding.
