Third of adults dodge two-year appointment

Eye health

Latest research has found nearly a third of adults in the UK have gone without an eye test for the past two years - while increasing numbers went online to buy contact lenses.

According to the YouGov SixthSense Opticians report, 31 per cent of a 2,102 adult sample dodged the recommended two-year test.

It was found that 21 per cent of them did not realise that they should have their eyes tested every two years, while 23 per cent only got their eyes tested when they felt they needed to.

Meanwhile, 26 per cent were aware of the need for a two-year eye exam but 'have not got around to it yet' and 14 per cent were delaying an appointment because they 'can't afford new eyewear', YouGov found. Of the spectacle wearers surveyed, 77 per cent bought spectacles in the practice they were tested, while 17 per cent shopped around before purchasing and 3 per cent bought their spectacles online.
