Nidek diagnostic technology, Optix practice management software and Thomson test charts have worked together to produce an integrated eye examination.
Thomson Software Solutions introduced its PC-based computerised test chart in 2000, with some 6,000 now used across the UK. Professor David Thomson of London's City University described adoption of flat screen displays in the consulting room as 'extremely fast', now at an estimated 70 per cent of the UK optical market.
He said the collaboration involved the three systems working seamlessly, so there was no need to re-enter data. 'The Thomson software controls the test chart and the computerised Nidek refractor head allows us to make more comparisons, at greater speed and so the results are likely to be more precise. There is greater control over the exact positioning, which is particularly valuable for astigmatic patients.'
