Transitions’ uses light-adaptive photochromic technology in new CLs

Transitions’ light-adaptive photochromic technology has been applied to contact lenses for the first ever time through a project between two of the profession’s largest manufacturers.

Essilor subsidiary Transitions Optical and Johnson & Johnson Vision this week announced the launch of ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions Light Intelligent Technology.

The two-week reusable, spherical contact lens will be commercially available from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care early next year.

The new product created ‘a new category of contact lenses and expands the photochromic category beyond eyeglass lenses’, a statement said.

Chrystel Barranger, president of Essilor Photochromics and Transitions Optical, said: ‘Transitions Optical has long been the leader in light management technology, mastering light for over 28 years. We have a history of product innovations from the first successful plastic photochromic lenses to lenses with variable polarisation. Our focus has always been on using innovation to break new ground and grow the photochromic category.
