Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) has opened its first vision centre in Uganda as a result of a tri-partnership with Sightsavers and the Ugandan Ministry of Health.
Earlier this year, Sightsavers renovated a disused building at Jinja regional referral hospital and in July a team of eight VAO volunteers travelled to Uganda to install the vision centre and undertake community outreach services.
The project was funded through a £12,000 grant from the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers in London, allowing VAO to buy equipment, lens and frame supplies and also pay for training for the centre's staff.
