Umberto Bassi feels CooperVision's FORCE

Umberto Bassi from Italy’s Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca has been named CooperVision’s Future Ocular Research Creativity Event (FORCE) Student of the Year.

The annual FORCE competition sees students from universities around Europe carry out six-to-eight week long contact-lens research projects, with a top prize on offer of a trip to the American Academy of Optometry Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. Bassi, pictured with CooperVision Italy’s professional services manager Sabrina Lotto, devised an infrared light tool to assess meibomian gland dropout in soft contact lens wearers and found that differences in clinical performance between lens materials became significant in patients who showed glandular dropout.
