Contact lenses based on corrections measured using wavefront technology will be demonstrated by a US company at the Expo West and Silmo exhibitions later this year.
Montana-based WaveForm already manufactures contact lenses based on wavefront maps of the eye. It said the measurements could be taken almost instantly and created a correction based on 28 levels of aberration.
According to US website helenair.com, WaveForm already makes customised contact lenses using the system and will be branching out into spectacle lenses soon.
The company's chief technology officer, Steve Dunn, said the techniques placed the main correction over the pupil, rather than the optical centre, offering the best possible visual outcome.
