In a development which could catch on in Britain, US contact lens wearers have their first ever internet price comparison service.
Eyeglasses123.com, based in Florida, which has been involved in online optical selling for over four years, has established www.contact-lens-priceguide.com, which compares the prices of contact lenses offered by some of the largest online retail sites.
All major contact lens brands are listed on the new site - Acuvue, SofLens, Optima, PureVision, Softcon, Torisoft, FreshLook, Focus, Sunsoft, and others. Global brands listed include those offered by manufacturers such as Bausch & Lomb, CIBA Vision, Cooper Vision, Johnson & Johnson, Ocular Sciences, and Wesley Jessen.
'There has never been a price comparison guide quite like this on the web before,' said Mitch Gantman, the owner of the new site. 'It has been designed just for contact lens users, and we've spent a great deal of time and effort finding out what it is that people shopping for contact lenses want.
'As a result of their feedback, we've built in some interesting new features into this new system that shoppers should enjoy using.'
Patients can search by brand or manufacturer and each item listed includes detailed photographs and a description.
Eyeglasses123.com, which operates out of Miami, owns and operates a large network of eyewear related websites, selling at discount prices. The company carries designer frame names such as Burberry, Dior, and Gucci.
