VAO helps Sierra Leone hospitals

An investment of £10,000 from Vision Aid Overseas has led to the refurbishment of optical workshops in two hospitals in Sierra Leone.

The workshops in Freetown and Bo were originally set up as part of two eye health units by VAO in the early 1990s to help meet eye care needs in what the UN has recently classified as the world's poorest country. The eye health units and the workshops survived the civil war and worked effectively, but after 14 years of use the equipment needed replacing.

New automatic edgers and other equipment was purchased at a generous discount from the Norville Optical group and installed by a VAO team, with the organisation placing the refurbishment as a top priority.
