Optical courier DX and Vision Aid Overseas celebrated the delivery of the 10 millionth pair of spectacles to the charity's headquarters by the optical courier this week.
Since 1997 DX has been collecting used or unwanted spectacles donated by the public from hundreds of opticians' practices in the UK and delivering them free to the charity. DX's collections from opticians across the country have resulted in an average of 1.1 million pairs of spectacles being delivered to VAO offices annually.
Tym Marsh, VAO director, said: 'Without a reliable delivery service that ensures the collection of spectacles from across the country efficiently
and consistently, our work would be severely hampered. DX assures that all spectacles donated to Vision Aid Overseas are safely and securely transported to us, enabling our teams to undertake projects across the world.'
Peter Brougham, chief executive, DX, said: 'It is easy to take for granted how simple it is for us to access optical services and spectacles when we need them in the UK. At DX, we all understand the importance of such services and we are delighted to be able to support such a commendable cause.'
