Vast batch of fake CLs seized in Shanghai

Contact lenses

More than 1.8 million counterfeit coloured contact lenses with an estimated value of $9.9m have been seized in the suburbs of Shangai after police received an anonymous tip off.

Three men were arrested in a raid last month - during which police discovered a workshop, warehouse and sales office operating without permits.

In a report published on ShanghaiDaily.com, the three men were said to have produced millions of counterfeit contact lenses in an illegal business which stretched back to 2008.

Samples of the confiscated coloured contact lenses were sent for testing and none passed the quality tests.
