Vision Council highlights growing AI use in optics

A report from the Vision Council, Focused inSights – Artificial Intelligence: Case Studies from the Optical Industry, has highlighted growing trends and applications in AI usage in eyewear and eyecare.

Organisations, including the University College of London’s Institute of Ophthalmology, Fittingbox and Texas State Optical, reported implementing AI most often in diagnostics, customer service systems and operations efficiency, as well as marketing, creative services and software development.

'The adoption of AI in optometry is still in its infancy, but the potential to streamline patient care and improve diagnostic accuracy is undeniable,' said John Marvin, CEO of Texas State Optical.

Several experts highlighted the potential for AI to increase access to care through virtual offerings, while others highlighted challenges, including security, patient privacy, bias and output accuracy.
