Vision Express’s Vision Van gets back on the road for UK tour

Vision Express’s Vision Van has been back on the road for a UK tour during Macular Week (June 26-30).

The latest results from the tour revealed 92% of those tested were not maintaining regular eye tests with almost two thirds found to have an out of date prescription.

During the campaign, the mobile eye testing unit visited Boston, Wrexham, Leicester, Blackpool and Huddersfield, where the rate of sight loss due to AMD is higher than the national average.

Of those tested, 7% were referred for further medical attention for suspected high cholesterol, central vision problems, a freckle on the eye and high pressure.

Vision Express CEO Jonathan Lawson said: ‘The reaction to our Macular Week campaign demonstrates there’s a real need for initiatives like this. Most people we spoke to were not aware of AMD or of the fact an eye test can detect so many health-related problems.’
