Vision Express sells monocles

Vision Express is to start selling monocles after receiving a number of requests for the eyewear from young men.

Costing £50, each monocle comes with a carrying pouch and a string to secure it.

Bryan Magrath, chief executive of Vision Express, commented: 'To our surprise we've had dozens of requests from customers in the last few months, so we thought we'd bring back the monocle on a trial basis.

'We're as puzzled as anyone by the interest, but we're a responsive retailer and we are delivering. I guess it's one of those inexplicable fashion things.'

If the trial in central London is successful, Vision Express will begin selling monocles at practices around the country.
