An optical body coalition has agreed on a strategy to improve public eye health through a series of measures.
It comes amid fears from the College of Optometrists that, without action, the number of people with preventable sight loss in the UK could double to four million by 2050.
The new strategy vowed to support the training of more ophthalmic public health experts, improve data and evidence for the most at risk groups, and build better relationships between eye health, public health and commissioners, improving the way services are designed.
Coalition members for the strategy included the College, the Optical Confederation and Royal National Institute of Blind People.
