A survey commissioned by the College of Optometrists has found that 22% of people have noticed their vision get worse during lockdown.
It also found that 32% of people believe that spending more time in front of screens has worsened their vision, which was a particular concern for the 18–34 age group (42%).
Of those who noticed their vision get worse but did not see an optometrist during lockdown, 29% said they felt their problem was not serious enough to warrant a visit.
Dr Susan Blakeney, optometrist and clinical adviser for the College, said: ‘It is very important that if your vision has deteriorated or if you are experiencing a red or painful eye you should telephone your local optometrist. They will be able to arrange a telephone consultation to help you get to the bottom of your problems and if needed they will arrange a face to face consultation.’
