Despite an increasingly congested international show calendar, organisers of the 25th International Vision Expo West exhibition held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas last week have reported a 5 per cent increase in show attendance figures compared to 2012.

The event’s co-owners, Reed Exhibitions and The Vision Council, told Optician that early unaudited data showed that approximately 13,000 delegates from 89 countries attended the exhibition, which hosted 425 exhibitors and 5,000 brands. Detailed third-party audited figures will be released in November.

‘International Vision Expo is unlike any other medical meeting,’ said Courtney Muller, group vice president for Reed Exhibitions. ‘Each year, we are challenged with sourcing and delivering the most innovative eyewear and eye care products, technologies and comprehensive solutions for our attendees, their businesses and – ultimately – their patients. This is not a sleepy industry. The buzz from attendees around the variety of products and technologies at this year’s show was a testament to that; and there’s a lot more in store for 2014.’
