Practitioners in the North West have pledged an ‘overwhelming level of support’ for volunteering at Vision Care for Homeless People’s new clinic within the Cornerstone Day centre in Manchester.

More than 60 people, including 44 optometrists and dispensing opticians have expressed interest in volunteering at the weekly clinics, which start on Monday May 12.

Funding will be provided for three years by Optometry Giving Sight, whose marketing manager Sandra Mallia (left) met with VCHP chair Elaine Styles (also pictured) and Richard Harvey, product manager of fellow supporter Bondeye Optical, at Optrafair London last month. Other supporters include Carleton Optical, Specsavers, Thomson Software and Topcon.

The charity has also received a significant funding boost said to be worth over £15,000 per year from practice software developer Optix.
