Visioneering Technologies Inc (VTI) reported data from its three year Progressive Myopia Treatment Evaluation for NaturalVue Multifocal Contact Lens Trial (Protect) at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
Dr Ashley Tuan, chief medical officer for VTI, revealed that after one year, 58% of the 145 children wearing NaturalVue daily lenses had similar physiological axial length growth as age-related emmetropic children.
The average wearing time with NaturalVue was 11-12 hours per day, equal to the single vision lens control and greater than the 10 hours per day protocol. The company said this indicated that vision and comfort were acceptable to children and strongly supported compliance.
Tuan said: ‘For the majority of patients, the study showed that NaturalVue held axial length growth to that of age-matched emmetropic children. The wearing time results are important as these are directly related to the results seen across the study. These new data continue to validate our confidence in the effectiveness of NaturalVue Multifocal Contact Lenses.’
