Walgreens and Boots Opticians owner Alliance Boots have completed their strategic partnership to form Walgreens Boots Alliance (News 27.06.12).
The deal was said to combine Walgreens as the largest drugstore chain in the US with Boots, reportedly the market leader in European retail pharmacy.
A first stage in 2012 saw Walgreens invest $4bn in cash and 83.4 million shares in exchange for a 45 per cent equity ownership stake in Alliance Boots, and late last month Walgreens acquired the remaining 55 per cent stake.
