How Wales approaches long-term eye health care is key topic

Delegates attending the Association for Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (AIO) annual Conference in Cardiff last weekend had the chance to hear Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Health Vaughan Gething speak about how Wales approaches long-term eye health care.

Gething detailed the planned and co-ordinated approach being taken by the Welsh Government in tandem with the NHS and community health care providers to focus on early detection and treatment of eye disease.

Peter Warren, chairman of AIO said: 'I was delighted not only that Vaughan Gething agreed to address our conference, but to hear the enlightened and well-planned approach that is being taken to eye health care in Wales. In particular, the role that optometrists can and increasingly will play in acting as the first port of call for eye care in the community was extremely reassuring.
