Ann Morgan Opticians in Cleator Moor celebrated 25 years of business on November 9 and to mark the occasion the close-knit team went away for the weekend.
Optometrist Morgan (pictured front left) started the business in a former dress shop using second-hand equipment and a loan from her parents to save local families from travelling to Whitehaven or Workington.
The business has grown, now employing 10 people and acquiring the latest equipment, including an optomap for ultra-widefield retina imaging.
‘There’s always a happy atmosphere and most of the staff have been working here for many years – Linzie McCaslin and Susan Rooney have been here from the start and my optometrists Rachel Kinnear and Jannine McAteer have worked here for over 17 years,’ said Morgan.
‘One of the joys of the job is seeing four generations of some families and watching youngsters grow up – some we knew as youngsters are now bringing their own children in,’ she added.
