Two thirds of consumers were unaware of the practice of brand licensing in designer eyewear, according to a new feature from consumer website Which?
Over 2,000 of its members were polled on the subject by Which?, that said whatever brand of eyewear they chose in their local opticians, their money was likely to end up with one of a few huge manufacturers that dominate the glasses industry.
The article outlined the brands owned and produced by Luxottica, Safilo and Essilor. It also highlighted each company’s retail interests, including De Rigo’s interest in Boots Opticians and Safilo’s links with Dutch private equity firm HAL Holdings, which owns a stake in Grand Vision, the company that controls Vision Express.
