Two window dressing experts shared their expertise through live tuition at last month’s Optrafair London. Liz Rivers, who has 40 years of window dressing experience, said: ‘You have three seconds to grab the attention of passers-by, so you must aim for maximum impact and ensure the displays are changed regularly – at least once a month.’

She explained how seasonal themes such as gardening items in spring and strawberries during Wimbledon could make an impression. Nicola Lugard-Davies (right), who has trained staff in visual merchandising skills, added: ‘Holiday time can be themed with suitcases and sun-creams, autumn with seasonal foliage, and with books as they remind people that they sometimes need better vision for winter nights of reading.’
