The rarely discussed psychological area of vision will be discussed in a day-long workshop in the autumn.
'Eye and mind: Psychological aspects of the vision care’, which will take place at Aston University, will discuss a number of themes.
‘This workshop aims to review the major psychological issues surrounding the patient requiring optometric care,’ said a spokesman.
‘From day-to-day practice it is evident that many patients experiencing ocular diseases, with or without visual decline, require sensitive assessment to ensure that they receive adequate support, and appropriate, patient-tailored intervention.’
The programme includes ‘Physical abuse in children and elderly: the role optometrists in detection and referral’, ‘Malingering, factitious disorders and legal aspects related to vision care’, and ‘Psychological and social consequences of low vision’.
The event takes place on September 26. For more details email j.y.brown@aston.ac.uk
