The Yell Group, publisher of the Yellow Pages directories and leading online search engine Yell.com, has confirmed that consumers will no longer be able to undertake searches in its products for the term optometrist.

The Yell Group, publisher of the Yellow Pages directories and leading online search engine Yell.com, has confirmed that consumers will no longer be able to undertake searches in its products for the term optometrist.

Optician learnt this week that the company is in the process of rolling out new directories of which there are 104 regional editions and changing its Yell.Com search engine so that they will carry the classification Opticians - Ophthalmic for the profession instead of the existing classification Opticians - Ophthalmic (Optometrists).

A Yell Group spokesman told Optician: 'We recently undertook a review of the classifications used in our products to ensure that they effectively reflected the way customers searched for services. This change was a part of this wider process.
