What? You might well ask. Well, the latest results for the National Ophthalmic Database (Nod) for cataract surgery to April 2022 were published this month. This is compulsive reading for an ophthalmologist.  

We are all in there and our individual performances, together with our eye surgery units, reported in detail based on two key measures; our stats on posterior capsule rupture (PCR) and the rate of significant vision loss caused by surgery.  

PCR is a proxy for surgical quality with higher rates in less experienced surgeons. It is well known that PCR is associated with high complication rates, such as post-op infection or retinal detachment.
