A week of news - flurry of Christmas tales

There is a cautionary tale ahead of Christmas for vodka drinkers in this week's edition. Surrey County Coucil has identified the sale of counterfeit bottles with dangerous levels of methanol capable of causing blindness.

Information also reached the news desk late Tuesday that Rodenstock has extended its license to produce Wimbledon eyewear for three more years. Whether British number one Andy Murray will win the championship within this timeframe would be a fine Christmas talking point.

There was also an update on the fate of the historic London Stone this week, which has been of concern to the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers of recent months. The sticking point now is that the Victorian Society believes the modern building it is destined for is unfitting of the monument. Having visited the stone a few months ago, this news desk would urge developers to think fast one way or the other, because a makeshift cafeteria is a far from suitable solution.
