A week of news - new leader at AOP

Joe Ayling

A year and a half after the Association of Optometrists' chief executive Bob Hughes decided to walk, the organisation has named a permanent new boss.

Richard Carswell will end his interim chief executive role in the summer as Henrietta Alderman takes charge.

He has helped with the lengthy succession process and may be relieved the AOP the search is now over.

Alderman, meanwhile, brings top level experience from the British Veterinary Association and British Bobsleigh Association (see this week's news).

Luckily she does not quite face a challenge on the scale the late great John Candy did in this famous bobsleigh classic. She will, though, be hoping for similar outcomes.
