A week of news - signs of heart disease in the eye

It was reported this week that the University of Edinburgh's Clinical Research Imaging Centre (CRIC) is to embark on research into how scans of blood vessels in the eye can identify heart disease.

The news illustrates the clinical possibilities for optometrists in the future, but will also be music to the ears of scanning instrument makers such as Optos.

Also in tomorrow's edition will be a frosty reader reaction to the AOP's recent online elections in four regions. While postal voting may well be on the way out, it seems some members feel a little disenfranchised by the new cyber system.

There has also been a change to the way domiciliary complaints will be handled in the future - with a new independent body specially formed.
