Apropos my post yesterday about 'bionic' contact lenses safely passing the rabbit wear test, the Guardian has also covered the news in 'Would you wear a bionic contact lens to read emails?' http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/nov/22/bionic-contact-lens-emails. Its story has garnered quite a few comments, most of them saying they don't really see any call for such a piece of kit, although a few readers are quite excited about the opportunities as long as they expand beyond the reading of emails. Some suggest that researchers work on spectacles or sunglasses with a similar function, rather than trying to cram such technology in to a tiny contact lens. We already have the launch of the electronically focusing EmPower specs to look forward to http://www.pixeloptics.com/empower/ in April 2012 http://www.opticianonline.net/Articles/2011/11/04/28496/emPower+set+for+April+launch.htm?key=EMPOWER so anything's possible.
