Are online eye exams a threat?

There have been two news stories about online eye tests in as many weeks in Optician journal.

In each instance, the provider has faced resistance from the American Optometric Association and it can only be a matter of time before similar services are marketed at UK patients.

When they do, who will put up a fight on these shores?

As established during the GOC standards review, which concluded this week, the regulator does not have the power to demand every optical-related business joins its registers. This means any opposition to online eye tests here must come from one, or all, of the optical bodies.
