Concerns include the implication that one standard of qualification might suffice; poor timing for a profession that is undergoing significant divergence and embracing new and exciting roles in primary and secondary care. Also, a move to on-the-job learning might be detrimental, especially if there is any pressure in the workplace to achieve results more geared to the needs of the employer. This also raises the issue of the potential for compromise of patient safety.
