Last weekend I attended the College of Optometrists’ ‘Bitesize’ CET event in glorious Milton Keynes. Without a trace of sycophancy, I thought the event was well run and offered a good range of topics at levels that appealed to all present.
The peer discussions centred around three cases where there was some divergence of opinion. This was especially so with the case of a patient who had 6.00DS of anisometropia after one cataract had been removed and who had been told to ‘go to their optician’. Good peer sessions rely on everyone in a group being involved and where the matter under consideration allows for a healthy dispute. This was certainly the case here. Rumours abound that the next three-year CET cycle will increase the peer discussion/review component. As long as these are well designed and organised, we should all welcome this.
