The Minor Eye Conditions Service (Mecs) is aimed at providing the structure whereby eye conditions can present to optometric practice and the optometrist be able to assess and either manage themselves or refer appropriately for secondary care.

A good description of the service and its aims is provided by Locsu (www.locsu.co.uk) who have championed the service in a much needed effort to provide a unified service better able to target resource, use the optometrist’s skillset and ultimately provide a more easily accessed and efficient service for patient care.
