August usually represents something of a silly season in the news, but Optician seems to have been bombarded with a sequence of must-read stories all month.
It began with the new GOC standards, a set of new expectations being imposed on professionals. At the same time, a new code of conduct was unveiled for online contact lens sellers.
Next came the unwelcome news of another measly increase to the already threadbare GOS fee.
Nevertheless, this week brought the opportunity to visit some of the practices and people that make this profession such a unique one.
On Wednesday it was a visit to the next instalment of our Remarkable Roles series of features. Without giving away too many details this optometrist does not have the time or need to operate a practice website, but carries the weight of the business on her own shoulders instead.
