Chris Bennett: Good cause for celebration

Chris Bennett

Celebration seems to be in short supply at the moment but Optician is riding to the rescue by reminding its readers about the great things happening in optics through the 2023 Optician Awards.

If you’ve never attended the Optician Awards ceremony you’ve missed out on a great celebration, but if you’ve never entered the Awards now is the time to get involved as the deadline looms on September 1.

Each year, the Optician Awards evolve to pick up on new trends and we also change the way we ask entrants to present themselves.

Over the years, this has expanded the Awards from the consulting room to dispensing, the optical assistant team and out into the supply industry.

This year, we revisit the world of domiciliary optics with a dedicated award, we also spotlight myopia management, fashion and technology. Elsewhere, we seek the Clinical Leader of the Future. This Award requests entrants to make a short video presentation; modernising by rewarding clinical commitment in a way the Tik Tok generation understands.

Award winners tell us time and time again that entering the Optician Awards is one of the most rewarding and revealing processes an optical practitioner or practice can undergo.

The process of explaining and presenting yourself to others requires a full and frank self-analysis that delivers a new level of self-awareness. It delves into the dynamics of how teams work and highlights the great things they achieve together. Things you may otherwise miss.

The presentation of these iconic trophies is not just the biggest party of the optical year but also a true celebration of excellence within the optical sector. More importantly, it’s for everyone. Independent panels of judges take each entry on its merit, they don’t vote for friends.

Our winners are practitioners, just like you.

Why not make 2023 the year you help highlight the great things about UK optics.
