Chris Hunt has always talked a lot of sense and his comments on driving and vision in this week’s issue are no exception. The Optical Confederation, of which Hunt is the chairman, was set up specifically to enable the optical professions and business to talk with one voice. A little action would be nice too.
In a sector riven by commercial pressures and professional sensitivities Hunt stands astride the divisions drawing together the worlds of dispensing, optometry and industry. The combination is a force optics should take the opportunity to harness.
This week the General Medical Council reminded GPs that it was their responsibility to inform the DVLA if patients were medically unfit to drive (News). This was endorsed by the GOC, albeit with the ubiquitous rider that ‘registrants should use their professional judgement’. Apparently the College has guidance too.
