Big businesses like Specsavers or ASDA may seem a million miles away from a single door independent but, as demonstrated at the recent Optix User Group (22.04.16) charting and understanding business metrics is key – regardless of size.
The differing make-up of the UK’s optical businesses is truly staggering. Some are family owned, some part of international optical groups, others part of global retailers and then there are the joint venture models and franchises. Optics is far from transparent. Similar exercises in the automotive, construction and electrical industries have yielded lists of top 50 or top 100s drilling down into fine details all made available in the public domain. Not optics; Optician has done its best to paint an accurate picture but bear in mind that estimates have been made where necessary.
