Chris Bennett: Optics stages its own Grexit - Indiexit

Independent practices are voting with their feet to say that they will not live by rules set in ivory towers

Unilaterally withdrawing from failing systems seems to be the order of the day.

In the light of political and diplomatic failure Greece has turned to the basics. Faced with a framework that just doesn’t work the seat of democracy has turned to some simple economics and asking people what they want.  While those who live in the land of policy and polemic think Grexit is unthinkable those inhabiting the real world need a liveable solution.

Anyone attending Independents Day this week (news) will have sensed a similar groundswell, Indiexit. This time swap the Euro for the NHS-funded eye exam and the European Union for GOS. It’s official: successful and forward-thinking independent practices are no longer embarrassed or afraid to say that GOS is broken and unfit for purpose.

Independent practices are voting with their feet to say that they will not live by rules set in ivory towers. Successive governments, and the associations who are complicit by their inability to secure a realistic framework, must sit up and take note.

A new breed of super independent practice has emerged. It offers difference. Great products, great, eye care, great customer service and great coffee.

Unlike the Greeks. it has a clear idea of where it wants to go and how to get there.
