If you were a little bit irked by the latest Which? report into Opticians (news) take a second look at the title of the investigation.
The Which? research unashamedly bills itself as being into 'the best and worst places to buy glasses'. Not a good start. All retail opticians worth their salt now want to to be associated with eye care and have been spending millions convincing the public of that in recent weeks.
Worthy as Which?'s intentions are in 2014 you would have expected a little more intelligence to be applied to the correction of eyesight. Much of the report centres on value and selling pressure. Independents, the ultimate winners of this Which? beauty contest, will be delighted to come out on top but would surely have preferred to be crowned the best providers of eyecare rather than the best at flogging specs.
