There are strong themes in the crystal ball-gazing missives from the movers and shakers of the optical profession this week ( news) and they centre around change.

While change has become the norm the pace of change is something we have yet to come to terms with. Each of our association bosses has a different area of interest but there are common themes. While the FMO points to communicating benefits to members, FODO is hoping the tipping point for primary care services will make itself felt in practices. The AOP specifically mentions the changing optical landscape and voices its wish to protect members, the GOC wants to lay down standards to help professionals avoid conflict with patients. Sight Care's Paul Surridge is hopeful of an improving economy which practices can tap into and promises consumer research to smooth the way.
