Chris Bennett: Time for Optician Awards mode

Optician Awards has become a pre-Christmas celebration, get your entries in now

With Glastonbury festival-goers still scraping the last vestiges of mud from their designer wellies, the eagle-eyed among you may well be surprised to see a call for entries to the Optician Awards.

It’s not just the Pilton pack whose fun has suffered an interregnum; we’re all slowly getting our calendars, and body clocks, back in synch following the pandemic. Milestones in the year, once familiar, have been skipped and moved as we welcome back opportunities to meet up with old friends and colleagues.

Post-pandemic, the Optician Awards night has become a pre-Christmas celebration in a move from its old date in April, where it sat alongside Optrafair. That means that the summer is now the time to log onto opticianawards.co.uk and peruse the categories on offer to get your entry in before the August 29 deadline.

As well as the evergreen core categories, this year sees a rejig of our sustainability category, sponsored by CooperVision. This winner will receive a unique trophy, artisan-made from recycled materials. More on that at a later date.

Building back better was a feature of many entries last year and Bausch + Lomb has taken up the mantle on that topic for 2022. Myopia control also has its own category and there are awards open to all practice functions as well as supply businesses.

Entering the Optician Awards is a useful, enlightening and potentially fruitful process. With practices busier than ever, be sure not to miss out on your chance to be rewarded and recognised in front of your peers. The presentation ceremony is the optical party of the year and its new pre-Christmas slot only adds to the excitement and fun.

Of course entries come first; August 29 is the new deadline so pop it in your diary and start deciding which category you will be entering.
