Trust plays a key role in life and it is a rare commodity optics enjoys. The key relationships between supplier and practice and eye care professional and patient remain, however high-tech the business becomes.
The rarity of trust cannot be underestimated and it is one that optics should closely guard. Once it is lost it is hard to regain. Last Wednesday the whole profession found itself on TV trial courtesy of the Watchdog exposé on blue light filtering lenses. The public continues to voice its trust in the profession but how long will that continue when secretly filmed advisers are seen offering erroneous advice?
