It’s great to hear a company bringing in new technology highlighting the importance of the optical profession and that is exactly what is happening with Google Glass.

New developments don’t come any more high profile than Google Glass (news) which is being touted as the next generation of mobile viewing technology. The idea behind Glass is that the output from a mobile device is projected onto the wearer’s spectacles, providing head-up display information and interaction for the wearer. This could be contact details, map information, photos or a wearer’s eye-view video. In the US VSP is Google’s partner on Glass, providing the prescription lenses for customers opting for the product. VSP’s position as an insurance provider means it has a relationship with both ECPs and customers.
