Chris Bennett: What are our leaders doing for us?

Never has the spotlight shone on those who represent us as brightly as it does today, and quite rightly so.

The growth in the layers of regulation, control and politicking has been equalled by an increase in the number of officials, bureaucrats and spin doctors. As the big government machine grows its accountability lessens it appears.

At a parliamentary level we get to review our choices every five years. Politicians parade their promises, trumpet their successes and berate their opponents in an effort to win our votes. Sadly it doesn’t end there, local associations, county councils, regional government, (at the time of writing) European government live above and below Westminster with their associated machines.
