Comment: An end to old certainties

Some of the sacred cows of the public sector are coming under attack at the moment, be prepared to act.

Life has certain inevitabilities about it. Just as with death and taxes there are other bastions of British society that have always been there and the assumption was they always would.

It might be the economic situation, lack of funding or frustration with sclerotic bureaucracies but a sea-change in attitudes towards some of our institutions is afoot. The National Health Service, the BBC, the welfare state, dare we say The European Union are all used to being attacked, but this time real change seems to be taking place.
