Comment: Health on the high street

You can get a flu jab in Sainsbury’s these days. My wife did that very thing just the other day. Having popped in for the groceries, just the bulk stuff, we support the local butcher, baker and fishmonger, she was ‘sold’ a jab. There and then for £9.50, she may even have earned Nectar points.

Putting aside the issue of a healthy woman’s need for a flu jab or the wisdom of inoculating folk mid-shop, this transaction highlights the changing nature of retailing and open-mindedness of shoppers if the right proposition presents itself. For retailers it highlights the opportunities available if enough suggestible people wander by.
