Comment: Highs, lows and market potential

There's a definite see-saw feel to the economy and the market. One moment things are high in the air and rising, the next crashing down to earth with a bump. One minute the opposition is telling us what a parlous state the country's finances are in, but the stock market keeps on rising. One week (News 05.10.12) a group announces the closure of dozens of practices and the next a small chain reveals its plans to double in size (see news).

Anyone attending Silmo last weekend would have been left in no doubt about the confidence in the market and the efforts being put in by the industry. One British firm was there highlighting the importance of children's eye care, pointing out in the process that 50 per cent of the client base doesn't even present for an eye examination. How many markets have that kind of potential left in them?
