Pantomimes are a great allegory for the struggles of life but for some reason this year it struck me more so than ever.

Pantomimes are a great allegory for the struggles of life but for some reason this year it struck me more so than ever.

While watching Dick Whittington at the Barbican, along with Mrs Optician Editor and the kids, I was struck by the common sense contained in the
closing pantomime parable. The dreams, the obstacles, the failure and the struggle for success just seemed to add up. Instead of questioning the six-foot-two man in a large frock, I found myself questioning my own scepticism in the tale of triumph against adversity. Life isn’t a pantomime but we all face our own King Rat.
